Here’s the process, step-by-step, by which I made Laugh Menu number 79!
Check out this slide show of the process:
For the last few Laugh Menu strips (#68 for example) I’ve made a two-color version by doing two graywash overlays and then tinting them on the computer. The two overlays are on sheets of vellum. I ended up using a little bit of slop from the back of the envelope and photoshopping it in to add a little more coverage as well. Also in photoshop I copied a piece of the scanned vellum and scaled it way up and blew it out with the levels settings to make that hazy “noise” that’s over parts of the strip. There are some other photoshop adjustments here and there, too.
The story I did for Study Group Magazine — still for sale! — was done like this, but I think I’m getting better at it than I was when I did that. When I get enough strips that are made like this I guess I’ll try to sell you a PDF of them. I don’t have any print publishing plans for them at the moment.
That’s all there is to it!
